{"id":3008,"date":"2021-03-19T11:43:16","date_gmt":"2021-03-19T09:43:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/halco.gr\/?page_id=3008"},"modified":"2021-04-14T10:49:30","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T07:49:30","slug":"uses-of-antimicrobial-copper-hcai","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/halco.gr\/el\/uses-of-antimicrobial-copper-hcai\/","title":{"rendered":"Uses of antimicrobial copper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During the subsequent decades the major concern within the medical community has been Health Care Associated Infections (HCAI).<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s report from WHO notes the difficulties of gathering reliable and comparable HCAI evidence globally or even nationally.\u00a0 However, the conclusion is that \u201chundreds of millions of patients around the world suffer to those infections.\u201d<sup>7<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Only receiving public attention when a family member suffers or there are outbreaks, HCAIs are a very real endemic, on-going problem and one that no institution or country can claim to have solved, despite many efforts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The statistics are harrowing.\u00a0 The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) indicated HCAI levels in Europe as 7.1% in 2009. This equates to over 4 million patients each year.<sup>9<\/sup>. Additionally,\u00a0 The estimated incidence rate in the United States of America was 4.5% in 2002, corresponding to 1.7 million affected patients<sup>10<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Infections in ICUs can be as high as 51%, most of these having health care-association.\u00a0 Furthermore, the longer patients stay in an ICU, the more at risk they become of acquiring an infection.<sup>12<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The measures taken towards reducing microbe transportation through frequently touched surfaces started in the last decade with the \u201c<em>Clean Care is Safer Care<\/em>\u201d campaign (WHO)<sup>12<\/sup>.
